Meet Carol Hannah Whitfield. She’s a self-taught designer who learned to sew from her mom. She realized she had designer potential when the results of a career survey in the fifth grade told her she was well-suited to fashion design. While her strengths include sewing fast, streaming a theme throughout several pieces and seeing things from a construction point of view, she admits that she can be indecisive at times.

Meet Irina Shabayeva. She’s an Aquarius who’s not a fan of oversized silicone breasts. She thinks everyone should have a hot pair of sunglasses in their wardrobe. Her training? Nothing less than the Parsons School of Design. Will her five years in the industry give her an edge on the competition?

Meet Epperson. He’s a self-taught designer who enjoys the freedom to reengineer fabric. His professional inspiration? Yohji Yamamoto. If he had the opportunity to dress Michelle Obama, he would put her in a beautiful ruffled frock. Besides designing, he’s a loving father who enjoys walking with his wife and kids through Central Park.

Meet Shirin Askari. She’s a strong, energetic and independent woman who would be a pediatrician if she wasn’t designing. Her favorite supermodel muse? None other than the lovely Heidi Klum. Watch for throwback themes in this designer’s pieces - her favorite style icon is Katherine Hepburn, and she pulls inspiration from the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s. While she loves ’80s and ’90s rock, she’s not a fan of Crocs or midriffs.

Meet Nicolas Putvinski. He thinks feather work is a complete lost art. His fashion must? Denim. And his partner in crime? His cute little dog, Chardonnay. While Nicolas distinguishes fabric manipulation as his strength, he admits that men’s tailoring is his weakness. The piece he’s most proud of designing? The Victoria’s Secret wings. Will angels be watching over Nicolas and lead him into the finals?

Meet Gordana Gehlhausen. Want to talk about a prodigy? She knitted her first sweater when she was seven years old! Her most upstanding style icon is Grace Kelly and Kate Moss is, hands down, her favorite supermodel muse. And she’s no stranger to the show - Uli Herzner is by far her favorite “Runway” contestant. Meet Qristyl Frazier. She developed her passion for fashion when she learned to sew at age 15. She’s most proud of her choice to step out of the box and design for plus-size women. While she describes herself as self-employed, she’s got quite a resume under her belt having designed for big names like Queen Latifah, Angie Stone and Wendy Williams. Her greatest influences? Technical perfectionists like Balenciaga. Will this plus-size designer have the chops to make it to the finals?
